Fantasy as Escape

Artist Statement

Ephemeral and surreal, these fantastical drawings are works done in avoidance of accessing and discussing in any discourse the reality of the world. In a sense they are their own wrapped worlds that take the viewer from their lives for a moment only to be confronted directly with a female figure that could not exist fully in reality. These are momentary reprieves, both for the artist and the viewer, they are indulgent and obsessive and hidden within the mythical colors and landscapes are narratives and stories the artist cannot face fully in their work. This is about motherhood, and expectations, fantasy and escape, self made myth which is easier than truth.
